Medium or dark gray hides drips and tire marks best between cleanings, which is why they're the most popular repair shop colors. Lighter colors, such as light gray, show more but also brighten the shop noticeably and make it easier to spot dropped fasteners and small parts. Plenty of shops use light gray for the brightness and don't worry about dirt showing on the floor since it's a Teflon-like finish and everything just wipes right off.
