Do the water test after cleaning oil spots with muriatic acid and Tide Liquid Detergent: sprinkle water on your worst areas. If it soaks in evenly, the standard primer is fine. If it beads up or shows a rainbow tint, oil is still in the slab — go with the oil primer option, which is formulated to bond to oil-impregnated concrete that would reject a standard primer. If over 50% of your floor is oil-soaked, it is easier to just use the oil primer from the start.
