VOC stands for Volatile Organic Compounds. They are the solvents that evaporate out of coatings that are not 100% solids or water-based. Any coating that is not water-based or 100% solids in both weight and volume will emit VOCs , and we always recommend wearing a paint respirator, especially when applying high-performance primers and topcoats, which are never 100% solids.
