One disadvantage of silicone coating is its relatively high cost compared to other coating materials. Additionally, silicone coatings can have poor abrasion resistance and may not adhere well to certain substrates without proper surface preparation. Most are very soft and can't be walked on. Be careful when deciding to use a silicone coating. Once you apply silicone coatings, nothing else will ever stick to it, and many times not even itself, meaning you will have to remove the coating entirely if you need a recoat. The one advantage of silicone based coatings is that it can survive underwater making it ideal for flat roofs with low spots that hold water for 48 hours or more.
