VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are the solvents that evaporate out of a coating as it dries — they're the fumes, and they're what low-VOC regulations in certain states restrict. Here's the good news for epoxy shoppers: true 100% solids epoxies like our garage systems are inherently very low in VOCs, because there's essentially no solvent in them to evaporate — that's why they're safe to apply in an attached garage without gassing the household. Where VOC rules matter is with solvent-based components such as primers and topcoats: if you live in a VOC-regulated state and one of our products is subject to VOC regulations, we list all the VOC-restricted states, you must select the Low VOC option of the system — for example, the Small Format Commercial Epoxy System offers one, and customers residing in a state on the list must choose it.
